The William Swanston Charitable Fund is accepting applications through the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.
The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley’s William Swanston Charitable Fund is seeking proposals for creative initiatives that will prevent or lessen risk factors that contribute to disparities and/or create opportunities for all children in the Ohio counties of Mahoning and Trumbull to thrive.
The fund is interested in improving the lives of Mahoning Valley children who have suffered the most from societal neglect and community disinvestment over time, including low-income, Non-Hispanic Black, and Hispanic children who reside in Youngstown and Warren as well as a few select disinvested communities; and children facing difficulties because of their experience(s) with abuse, neglect, dependency, and/or their experience with the children’s welfare system.
In order to provide chances for all children in Mahoning and Trumbull counties to thrive, the fund will give creative projects that address the following issues priority when issuing grants in 2022:
Health and Wellness: Programs that offer early intervention for physical, mental, emotional, and/or behavioural health issues, including mental health and addiction, chronic disease, and mother and infant health, can result in increased opportunity for children to succeed.
Education: Programs that address the achievement gaps caused by race and income, particularly for low-income Black and Hispanic adolescents, in the areas of kindergarten readiness, third-grade reading proficiency, eighth-grade reading proficiency, and high school graduation/college and career preparedness.
Children’s Services: Programs that address the needs of young people who are involved in the juvenile justice system or programmes that address the nexus of child welfare and parental substance abuse or incarceration.
