We place a special emphasis on organizations primarily serving youth and those that exhibit strong community support. To help those in our communities that need it most, the Foundation has selected four areas of focus for grant allocation: Education, Health and Human Services.
The Foundation supports organizations that have accurately identified needs and have successfully and consistently worked to provide life–changing opportunities within these focus areas.
The Foundation provides grants and contributions only to organizations that have tax exempt status from federal income tax under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Flathead Community Foundation was created by and for the people of the entire Flathead Valley. As a non–profit public charity, the Foundation was created by and for the people of the entire Flathead Valley. The Foundation solicits annual applications from nonprofit organizations and distributes cash grants. Through this work, we enrich the lives of present and future generations by supporting philanthropy in the communities we serve.
The Foundation for Animals (formerly known as The Mikal Kellner Foundation for Animals) is a unique nonprofit foundation dedicated to addressing the critical needs of animals, both domestic and wild. The foundation provides financial assistance to well–managed projects that promote animal welfare, prevent animal suffering, and provide clear and explicit improvements for animals.
The Kongsgaard–Goldman Foundation is a small, private foundation formed in 1988. The Foundation provides support to a wide range of nonprofit organizations in the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, Montana and British Columbia, Canada). Its program areas include human rights, civic development, environmental protection and restoration, and the arts and humanities.
The Lewis and Clark County Community Foundation provides financial support for quality charitable projects benefiting Lewis and Clark County and its residents. Grant applications are considered in these broad program areas: Arts & Culture, Economic Development, Health Services, Basic Community Needs, Conservation & Historic Preservation, Education and Youth.
The Trust’s mission is to enrich the quality of life in the Pacific Northwest by providing grants and enrichment programs to organizations seeking to strengthen the region’s educational, spiritual, and cultural base in creative and sustainable ways. In addition to a special interest in education and scientific research, the Trust partners with a wide variety of organizations that serve the arts, public affairs, health and medicine, and human services.
The Maki Foundation, established in 1981, makes grants for environmental protection in the western United States. In particular, the foundation is concerned with protection and preservation of the Rocky Mountain West’s remaining wild lands, rivers, and wilderness, as well as the wildlife that depends on these lands.

The Montana Community Foundation is committed to improving the lives of Montanans by helping individuals and families by supporting Montana nonprofit organizations. The Foundation has discretionary control over a small number of funds for which the organization maintains competitive grantmaking opportunities for community leaders
The Musselshell Valley Community Foundation (MVCF) is dedicated to enhancing the vitality of communities in the Musselshell River Valley of central Montana. – Montana. The Foundation grants primarily to five focus areas: Community Enhancement, Recreational and Cultural Development, Youth Activities, Natural Resources and Community Education.
NorthWestern Energy wants to make the communities it serves better places to live, work and prosper. That’s why we’re proud to donate to a wide range of worthy causes. We encourage qualified nonprofit organizations that operate within our service territory to apply for donations through our NorthWestern Energy Charitable Giving program.
The Nye Community Foundation was founded in 1999 to build a permanent financial base to support and promote projects that will benefit the residents of Nye and the surrounding area. Since its inception, in 1999, the Nye Community Foundation has gifted over $60,000 to area schools, college scholarships, fire and rescue groups, and youth organizations.
The mission of the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation is to transform individual lives and strengthen communities by fostering innovation, creating knowledge, and promoting social progress. Pride Foundation inspires a culture of generosity that connects and strengthens Northwest organizations, leaders, and students who are creating lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer equality. We fund non–profit organizations based in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. All of Pride Foundation’s granting decisions are made by volunteers knowledgeable in their community’s needs.
The Qwest Foundation is dedicated to enriching the lives of customers and the communities we serve. The Foundation awards grants that generate high impact and measurable results through community–based programs, including K–12 education and economic development. The Red Lodge Area Community Foundation serves Red Lodge, Montana, and the surrounding communities. The Foundation focus areas are arts and culture, education, environment, health and social services.
Albertsons Community Investment gives grants to nonprofit and school programs that meet the following focus areas: Hunger Relief, Health, Nutrition & Healthy Lifestyles.
The Avista Foundation, a community investment program of Avista Utilities, provides funding to non–profit organizations addressing the needs of communities and citizens served by Avista Utilities in eastern Washington, northern Idaho, portions of sourthern Oregon, as well as Sanders County, Montana. Focus areas: education “ supports K–12 education particularly in the fields of science, math and technology; and higher education.
The B.W. Bastian Foundation strives to build community and understanding by supporting local and national institutions. Financial support is directed at educational outreach, cultural and HIV/Aids programs. A strong commitment is placed on programs and organizations that benefit, encourage, and preserve the rights of individuals and promote equality for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community.
The Beim Foundation supports grants in the areas of arts, education, environment, human services, and small capital giving for art organizations and sustainable building design. The Foundation supports programs in Minnesota, as well as a limited number of projects in the counties of Park and Gallatin in Montana; the city of Seattle, Washington; the county of Fairfield, Connecticut; and the county of Cumberland, Maine.
Primary Geographic focus is the former Greater Yellowstone Region of the Montana Community Foundation (MCF), namely Yellowstone, Carbon, Musselshell, Big Horn, Stillwater and Treasure counties. The Billings Community Foundation makes grants for a wide variety of charitable purposes in the following focus areas: Education, Basic human needs, Arts and culture, Natural resources and conservation, Economic development.
The Foundation was incorporated in 1998 to serve charities, primarily in the greater Bozeman, Montana area.
The Foundation mission is to leverage foundation resources for the greatest possible impact in protecting pristine wilderness areas in Washington, Idaho, Montana, Alaska and western Canada; ending homelessness in Washington state; and strengthening the nonprofit community.
The Charlotte Martin Foundation, a private independent foundation established in 1987, operates in the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska. The Foundation is dedicated to enriching the lives of youth in the areas of athletics, culture, and education and also to preserving and protecting wildlife and habitat.
The Steele–Reese Foundation, a trust for charitable purposes, makes grants to charitable organizations operating in the western states of Idaho and Montana, and in the southern Appalachian mountain region of eastern Kentucky. The Foundation supports projects in education, health, social welfare, the humanities, and the environment.
The Western Montana Community Foundation and the Missoula Community Foundation seek to improve community vitality in the counties of western Montana, especially Granite, Mineral, Ravalli, and Missoula Counties. We consider applications from organizations directly benefiting Western Montana in the following interest areas: Education, including Lifelong Learning, Arts, Culture, and Historic Preservation, Economic Development, Environment, Natural Resources.
The Whitefish Community Foundation supports nonprofit, charitable organizations that enhance the quality of life in Flathead County, Montana. Its service area is generally limited to organizations whose work primarily serves the citizens of the Whitefish area. The Foundation will consider funding in three areas: (1) endowment development; (2) operating expenses; and (3) specific projects and programs, including capital projects.
The Women’s Foundation of Montana makes grants that benefit women and girls as well as our communities overall. As the only statewide fund dedicated to funding for women and girls, donations are leveraged through our endowment. Our grant–making is focused on lasting change for women and girls.
